How To Bleach Hair And Preparing the Bleaching Mixture

First, go out and get yourself and home bleaching kit.  Make sure you read the instructions carefully.

When you prepare the mixture start by adding just a little of the hydrogen peroxide provided in the kit with the powder bleach.

Stir the mixture very well and then add some more hydrogen peroxide.  Do not add the rest at this point.  Continue to add and mix, add and mix slowly until you use the required amount of ingredients.  This little by little mixing of the ingredients has been found to give better results because it’s easier to make sure the mixture is uniform this way.

The end result should not be very runny or very thick.  When are you done, make sure you close the bleach powder tightly immediately after you are finished.

Applying the Bleach

The first thing you need to do is prepare yourself for the whole process.  Get plastic gloves and put them on, then get a towel and tie it around your neck.  This should be a towel that you don’t mind if it gets totally ruined.  Also make sure the clothes you are wearing are old as you might spill some on them as well.

Grab the brush that came with the kit, dip it in the solution you mixed, and then start with the back of your head.  After the back, move the to the top and brush the top.

Make sure you are distributing the mixture as evenly as possible. If you find it easier to manage, you can use clips to section off your hair.  Many people find it easier to spread the mixture evenly when they section off their hair.

Also try to work as quickly as you can so that you can distribute it evenly before it gets tougher.

After the back and top is done and complete work on the rest of your head.

When you are done, put on the plastic cap that should have come with the kit as well.

Keep the solution on your head for the amount of time specified with the kit.  DO NOT LOSE TRACK OF TIME.  If you keep it on for a longer period of time you will burn your hair and might have other problems as well.

When time is up, rinse off all the bleach and use a very mild shampoo to make sure you get all of the chemicals out of your hair.

When done with that, make sure you moisturize your hair with a good moisturizer.  Bleaching your hair makes it very, very dry so this step is an absolute must!

If you are not satisfied with the results and want to do it again, do not do it right away.  Wait at least 2 or 3 days before you do it again.  Worse comes to worse you can also go to a salon and see if they can get better results as alot of times they know how to bleach hair so well because of their training and practice.  It can be very expensive though!

And even more, if you have a round face or oval shaped face the change in the hair part and putting it on the side (and not the middle) can really lengthen your face. Again, you want to avoid any parts down the middle of your head and instead use some side parts.  Even if you have a natural part that you think you can’t get away from, you usually can…remember a natural part is just your hair’s growth pattern.  More often than not, even if you think you have a part you think you can’t get away from I think if you try one of these techniques you will see that is not the case.

Zigzag & Criss-Cross Parting:

You can use this parting style to change up your day-to-day style or even add some fun to your daughter’s pigtails!  One thing to keep in mind:  this zigzap part looks the best on hair that is very dense at the scalp. This is because the more dense the hair growth, the cleaner the part will look.  (Pictured on the left is the zigzag).

If the hair is not very dense at the scalp try the criss-cross part instead.  The criss-cross part will make it look like there is alot more hair on the head and at the same time won’t look too “puffy”.

To do the zigzag, part the hair in a straight like you normally would.  Then take a wide-toothed comb and use the end to grab a triangle of hair on one side of the line and comb it back across the line.

Then move to the other side of the line and do the same thing and work your way back.  You can change the depth and width of the zig zags as you please.

Next I will explain the criss-cross part. For this one you begin with a straight-line part like you did with the zigzag.  Then use a section or “cut” of hair like before, but this time comb it more at an angle (most people comb it forward).  Next, instead of creating a clear line of parting, cut an angle on the opposite side and comb that sigment of hair over the “part” of the first angle.  Then work your way back doing this again.  You should end up with a “woven” type of look at the parting line.

Curved Hair Part:

A curved part creates a nice aymmetrical style as opposed to your normal straight part.  This is a good part for those “sweeping” styles as well.

You can also use this type of part to change the look of an up-do style you normally wear.

Diagonal Parting:

This is another nice asymmetrical look when trying to change up your hairstyle.  This is a good part when you want to direct a large amount of hair from one side to the other.

If you have a round or oval face this is a great way part to use with layers to frame your face and add length as well.

Play around with these parts, it’s pretty interesting to see how much a different look you can give to your hairstyle with just a different looking part.  And here’s a tip for you…use a small amount of pomade between your fingers to smooth along the hair part to make the part look cleaner and more defined.  When you use it, remember to smooth away from the parted line.

Ever cut your hair to get bangs or try out that new fringe style, but then got sick of them?  Then you thought “Oh no now I have to keep them like this because I don’t want to go through that awkward grow-out-the-bangs stage“!

I’m happy to tell you that this is not necessarily true!  Growing out bangs doesn’t have to be so terrible. There are some specific things you can do while you grow them out to make you look better and ALSO to make them grow faster.  Don’t forget, lots of side-swept bang hairstyles look really good, so don’t be afraid to try them.

Here’s some tips for growing out bangs:

1.  Use a cool, stretchy-type hairband

Getting a really nice, fashionable hairband is awesome because you can use it any time while you are growing out those bangs.  Ever cut them wayyyy to short?  Well just slap on a hairband and no one will ever know.

You can put the hairband  along your hairline most of time, or you can push it back just a little further to make sure you get all of the leftover hair that might be sticking out.

2. Use hairspray

You can use some hairspray to keep your bangs back or to the side for lots of side-swept bang styles.  You can use bobby pins to pin back your hair and then use some hairspray to really keep it there.  It sounds simple, but sometimes the simple things make a big difference when you are growing out your bangs.

3.  Different parts for different looks

When pinning your bangs back, or using a headband, or trying out side-sweep looks, don’t be afraid to try out different parts of your bangs.  Try dividing them down the middle and use some pins and hairspray to make them stay.  Or use some wax or gel and slide them straight back off your forehead.  Don’t be afraid to experiment, and have some fun with it!

4.  Patience is key!

Staring at your bangs all day wishing they were longer won’t make them grow any faster!  Just remember to have fun trying out different styles while you wait. The bangs are jagged cut to frame the face and complete the over-all look perfectly.  Here are the steps for getting this style at home:

Step 1:  Apply Moisturizer – Apply a small amount of moisturizer to the palm of your hand and distribute it evenly through the mid-lengths and the ends. Moisturizer will help your hair to maintain good condition and protect your strands from heat as you style.

Step 2:  Use Medium Radial Brush – A medium radial brush is used on medium to long hair types to smooth out wavy or curly hair textures or to add body to straight hair. When selecting a radial brush, always use one with a pure bristle as this will not tear or damage the hair.

Step 3:  Use Blowdryer to Kick Out the Back: Starting at the nape/back of the hair, place your brush on top of the section and blow-dry down starting from the roots and using tension as you go. Next, place the blow-dryer underneath the hair and continue to blow-dry the ends out. Make sure to follow the brush with the blow-dryer in an outwards direction. If you like fuller flicks, hold the ends out and roll them up into the brush and apply the heat for longer.

Step 4:  Use a Blowdryer to Kick Out the Sides: To blow-dry the sides, take out your first sections from the front and clip the rest of the hair up. Place your brush on top of the section, and starting from the roots, blow-dry down using tension as you go. Next, place the blow-dryer underneath the hair and continue to blow-dry the ends out. Continue this step until the hair is dry.

Step 5:  Blow dry the Crown: To blow-dry the crown/top sections, take a section of hair no bigger than the diameter of the brush and blow-dry the hair placing the brush under the section of hair. With your blow-dryer in front of the brush, follow the brush in an upwards direction at the roots and an outwards position at the ends for volume and softness. Continue until the section is dry.

Step 6:  Blow Dry the Bangs: When blow-drying your bangs forward, clip your hair back leaving only your bangs out. Position your bangs evenly in your brush, taking the hair in a forward direction.  Blow-dry from roots to ends, keeping the tension consistent, and evenly distribute heat over the whole section of hair that you are working on. Repeat until the hair is dry. This will stop any frizz that may occur.

Step 7:  Apply Wax to the Back: Using wax and your fingers grab the mid-lengths of your hair and then drag it out and upwards for a full and messy result. Remember not to overdo the wax or your result will be a flat and greasy style.

Step 8 :  Flick Sides Using Wax: Apply a small amount of  wax to your fingertips, and then starting about halfway down the hair shaft, pinch and drag the hair in a downward motion before flicking the ends out. Remember not to apply too much wax as it will weigh your hair down when your growing out bangs.

Step 9:  Style Bangs Using Wax: Apply a small amount of wax to your fingertips, and then using your fingers, rake through your bangs pinching the ends as you go to create a feathered, textured effect.

Step 10:  Apply Smoothing Shine: Apply a very small amount of smoothing shine to the palms of your hands and then run it through the mid-lengths and ends of your hair. Be careful not to add any to the roots or a large amount to any section of the hair as smoothing shine can be very heavy on the hair, weighing it down and making it appear oily.

The first thing you need to do is sweep the front part of your hair to one side of your head (high up above your ears).  This will create a more full crown area which is what you want.  The crown area is the top of your head towards the back. Then use your fingers and a good paddle brush to move both sides of your hair to the back of your head.

Grab all your hair into your hands and into a loose pony and tie it together is a pony elastic.  Make sure when you do this you grab all your hair!  The base of the ponytail (where you tie it) should rest in the middle of the back of your head.

Next, push your ponytail up just a bit so that you make the top of your head more full, then add some hairspray to keep things together.

Now grab the pony and separate it into one or two inch sections and curl each section loosely.  You don’t have to be perfect on this step.  Just curl each section loosely and don’t worry if it’s not perfect…remember this is for messy bun styles so you want that kind of messy look.  When I say curl it loosely, I mean you only have to hold each piece of hair in the curler for 3-5 seconds or so.  If you hair is very thick then up to 10 seconds will be plenty.

After you curl each of the sections of your pony, use bobby pins to pin the curly pieces against your scalp.  When you pin each piece you don’t want to do them all on the sides of your head!  Make sure you pin some at the top so that the shape of the bun is even.

How To Make Your Hair Wavy

Step one: Prepare your hair with a styling spray.  For example, Bumble and Bumble thickening spray is great for this step.  Spritz it on all the roots and comb through your hair.

Step two: Part your hair down the middle.

Step three: Blow dry your hair and scrunch it as you do it.  If you have curly hair then don’t scrunch – instead use a paddle brush to straighten it out as you blow-dry.

Step four: When your hair is almost dry (maybe 90% dry), separate your hair into two pieces making two pigtails.  Secure those pigtails with some elastics or pony tail holders.

Step five: Take one of the pigtails and twist it into one direction to form a bun.  Secure the bun by your ears with an elastic or pony tail holder and keep it in place with bobby pins.  Do the same thing on the other side.  Now you will have two buns.

Step six: Use a blow-dryer and blow the buns and the rest of your head with the dryer for 5 to 10 minutes or until your hair seems completely dry.

Step seven: Now leave your hair in the buns for another 10-20 minutes so the waves set.  Before you leave the house take your hair out of the buns and comb through with your fingers.  Don’t use a brush!  If the waves look too perfect and you want to make them a little more “casual” then use some texturizing spray to separate them a bit.

Step eight: Use a bit of hairspray to finish it off, and you’re all set!  Now you know how to make your hair wavy.

Step 2 – Style Hair Down – Apply some moulding cream to your fingertips and then pull it through the ends of your hair in a downward motion to achieve a textured look.

Step 3 – Softly Flick Sides – Apply a small amount of moulding cream to your fingertips, and then starting about halfway down the hair shaft, pinch and drag the hair in a downward motion before flicking the ends out. Remember not to apply too much moulding cream as it will make your hair sticky.

Step 4 – Style Bang to the Right – Apply moulding cream to your fingertips then gently rake through your bangs, sweeping the hair to the right as you go. Be careful not to use too much product as it can become sticky and clumpy.

Step 5 – Apply Hairspray – To finish, apply a minimal amount of hairspray from an arms length distance to the top, sides and back. Take care not to use too much or you will end up with a white, flaky residue which looks like dandruff.
